Beginner violin?

Topics about musical instruments other than guitar should go here. There's bound to be a Carter, LeRoi, or Yo-Yo Ma out there.

Beginner violin?

Post by lyrics101 »

A) If I can play the guitar well, the violin should come easily, yes?

B) Know a good instrument to start with?

i answered your question, i said no, but i guess you want me to elaborate

no, violin is nothing like guitar, except for the fact that it has strings, talent on guitar does not translate to talent on the violin

first of all, there are no frets, so you cant just place your finger inbetween two, nice, big, pieces of metal to get the right tone. because there are no frets, it is possible to hit every single cent in the harmonic range. basically that means you have to be able to hear to exact note, otherwise you will be off key. it takes a while for beginners to learn how to not get sharp or flat, YEARS in fact.

second, you have to learn bow technique, no picks, no fingers. its argueable that bow technique is as difficult as left hand technique. if you dont have proper bow technique, you will have terrible tone and end up with a lot of harsh screeches when you play.

violin, or any unfretted stringed intrument, is extremely difficult to even reach an intermediate stage. this is why most badass vioilin players you hear will have been playing since their childhood
