im having trouble playing stuff that involves basically strumming one string such as in loving wings, DIDO and of course stone
im wondering if this is common with anyone else and if theres any adivce yous can give me
Just like everything I found it hard at first to be able to strum and only hit the string I want. Most of the time I either hit some other string(s) or missed the one I wanted completely. Just takes practice getting your arm and wrist to memorise the position of all the strings so you can do it with out looking. Start slow going up down up down up down and just speed up from there.
Songs like Ants is good even tho you are not struming the single note, it still helps your arm and wrist to know where a certain string should be.
i am confused about strumming one string. is it that you strum all of the strings and just let one ring or do you just pick a string in the middle of strumming?

you hit just the string you want to hit. He doesn't mute much at all when doing this.
man all of this time i thought that when people were talking about strumming a string on this board i thought they meant muting all of the other strings except the one you were trying to hit and strum all of the strings. that was making the stone a bitch.

LOL, me, too. I thought you guys were all guitar masters or some shit.
for me it is a combination of both muting unwanted strings and 'aiming' for the one you want - that way you have a tendancy of hitting both the string you want and one adjacent to it but it is muted. plus, because your stroke is focused on just the one string, you don't hit the muted one with as much force and it doesn't sound as crappy. i might be wrong but that's how i play Dave songs
