I bought a Nady SP1 and it came with a stand and cord for only like $30. It works great. I have it running into a Eurorack mixer before the computer though. You will need some kind of preamp before running into your pc.

not if you use the microphone port, but using a preamp + line-in will get much better quality, so I recommend that instead.

How would you plug a regular three prong mic cable into the mic port on a normal sound card?

Ok I got ya, I didn't know you meant using adapters. You can do that but like you said your going to get alot better sound quality and control using some kind of preamp.

If you use a cunundrum like that you will lose quality in your sample rate. To get a connection you want you need an audio interface... or a sound card. Most sound cards aren't equipt with XLR I/O... but some do have stareo 1/4 I/O... so you need a console... buy a little Phonic 4 channel mixer... run your Mic into a channel... run the mixer into the card... it's as simple as that... When your talking about an 1-8' (Mini) well those aren't meant to take the Brunt of an XLR AC Signal... quality comes with a price and that is how it has always been.
