BARTENDER contest entry

Unread post by firedancer86 » Mon Jan 20, 2003 12:57 am

I have my bartender ready!

took me only 20 min to do all of it to...never practiced before (i never tried it before) totally improv! Both track...the only prob is, for some stupid reason there is a 12 sec. silent gap between the middle of the song...I still did it with 2 tracks though...only used delay and reverb on the solo track...well, enjoy and flame all you want...this will be my entry for the contest 8)

rate it w/o the stupid pause in the middle...

Quite honestly, firedancer, I agree with Winston. I've heard way way better from you. Bartender is a relatively simple song, with mundane chord changes and straightforward rhythm, at least as far as Dave goes. I really think that it's the vocals and the lyrics that make this song such a good one. And the lyrics are some of Dave's best, if not his VERY best, IMO. FANTASTIC allusion and metaphor used throughout, all in a very easy but sophisticated poetic voice. So, if Bartender is indeed the song you're going to do, I think you need to sing it as well. If you just want to do a guitar arrangement with no vocals, go with one of his more intricate and complicated guitar songs.

After a few bad reviews, I wanted to like this... and for what it is I do... but I did find it to be entriely too droning to be an instrumental. As Simon from American Idol would say "good voice, bad song".

Cheers!
