well i was more or less joking really, but I'm guessing Tim wouldn't be one to just stand by the wayside while some producer fucks things up (batson). He is a guitarist that revolves around spontaneity and creativity, so I could see him being pissed off if things are getting too "pop-ish" in the studio. And you are right, the band does need to do that on their own as well. Although they did that more or less with lillywhite, if I'm not mistaken?
