i use cool edit pro 2.1........and i bought one of the converters from radio shack and plugged it into my mic plug-in at the back of my comp and it still sounds distorted... :(

Check your Record Volume level in your Sounds and Audio Devices control panel. Mine is set to the lowest level. Pehaps yours is set too high and it's clipping and distorting...

also check for a +20 dB Boost. It would be under "advanced" under the microphone slider. Uncheck it if it's checked.

thanks for the help guys...im at school right now but ill try to lower the recording volume next....i had already unclicked the Db booster thingy and it helped a bit maybe i should borrow my buddys amp and try that.

This is exactly how I've got it set up now

guitar>patch cord>amp>patch cord out of amp>radio shack cord converter>mic plug-in in the back of computer.

I'm a moron. I never checked this setting before and I just discovered it was checked. Could be why my recordings have been called by some "sonically heavy". Now I have the Microphone volume setting cranked and the Mic Gain Boost off and the B-Band sounds a lot cleaner and more natural. Thanks TrippnBill686!
