Whenever i try to record my sound is always really crunchy and sounds like it is in overdrive. I use cool edit pro and run my guitar through my fender amp.
I dont have a mic yet im just trying to get my guitar working first....it sounds like it has the distortion on even though it isnt..makes my guitar sound like crap

its just the fact that you are redcording directly onto your sound card, you'll never get a good sound out of it, sorry

you need a mulitrack recorder that you can transfer songs onto your computer
If you're using the LINEOUT on your fender amp, then you should try the LINE IN on your sound card. THe microphone input has a very high gain since microphones are unpowered. Since the line out from the amp is powered, it is clipping on the mic input.
