Help with Timmy's You Are My Sanity

Post by Oregon41 »

So I'm finally trying to learn some Tim Reynolds songs, starting with You Are My Sanity, but a technique of his that I'm having trouble with is when he is playing two different things at once (not using a looping pedal).

go to http://www.myspace.com/timreynoldstr3 and play You Are My Sanity on the player. At 0:05 or 0:06 is what I'm talking about, where he keeps on with the arpeggio but also plays that one riff on the e-string. Does anyone have any good advice on how to do this correctly? I can barely even figure out what he's doing just by listening to it. Any help would be great.

Play it a lot. Thats really the only thing there is to it. You have to listen to it a lot too, and really understand whats going on in the song. I spose you could break it up and learn all the treble stuff, and come back and learn the "baseline" but I think its best to learn it all together.

I agree that you should play both parts separately a couple of times, but it's all about playing them together...

I takes a lot of time and one really has to start slowly. But it is very rewarding at the end...
