removing my nut

Post by IDrinkTooMuch »

So the nut on my 314ce is really worn, and its time for a new one. I'm going to replace it myself, but I've never done it. I found a lot of sites around the web, but do you guys have any suggestions?

Id get it done by a luthier. Im almost sure that 314s have a headstock overlay which put the nut in a bit of a slot between the fretboard and the overlay. So if you try to take it out, you might chip the Headstock Overlay.

Also, in order to do this, you need a nut file. Nut files are more expensive than taking the guitar to a luthier. Last week I called one, and asked about replacing my nut and saddle, and it was about 80 bucks.

I really really suggest going to a luthier. You probably spent more than 1000 dollars on your guitar. Im sure you would feel terrible if you did something bad to it accidentally.

Also, Frets.com has lots of great information on this kind of thing.[/quote]

i wont need a nut file because i have a pre-made one from taylor. the only tough part should be getting the old nut out, then i should be able to pop the new one in.

if you do decide to replace your nut (serious comment), be sure to replace it with a nice bone or ivory one.
