Removing Bridge Pins on Larrivee

Post by Lbacker »

I am replacing my strings on my Larrivee D-03 for the first time. On all my previous guitars I have had no trouble replacing strings. But I cannot get the bridge pins out of my Larrivee. I tried hinging them out with a pin remover and a knife. I reached my hand in and tried to push it out from the bottom. I have pushed very hard but am afraid if i push as hard as i can i will crack the top. Anyone have any tricks for this?? I've changed strings a lot before but never had this problem.

Its only occuring on the LOW E string..my other pins can pop out easily

My Larrivee's bridge pins are stubborn too. Just use a string winder to pop it off.

needle nose pliars***(spelling not sure, plyers, pliers) the only problem is you might slightly dent the pins. I have had to do this a few times, when the pins were being stubborn. No real damage though and at worst case new pins are pretty cheap.

k thanks guys. My bridge pin remover tool is kinda worn down so it slips off the pins. I can get everyone out except the low E. When i try and pop it out from inside I push as hard as i can and it won't budge so i dunno what to do...I don't wanna fuck it up so i might take it to the larrivee dealer like 2 miles away.

I guess I always push the string down before pulling the pin up...

it works for me

when you're placing new strings you do the same thing...except you give it a good tug so the pin gets locked by the ball end of the string

you don't need to apply any force to the top of the guitar or anything...just grab the string and push it down back into the bridge,"unlocking" the string from the pin

if it doesn't work then try taking your guitar to your local shop

I wouldn't recommend using pliers...i'd be too scared to scratch or ding the top

Well..it took the luthier a power drill to remove this bridge pin  . He said the winding on the end of the string imbeded into the pin..so with the pin still in the bridge..he drilled straight into the top of it splitting it in half. Luckily he was a Larrivee dealer so he had many bridge pins around. Good thing i didn't keep pushing b/c that fucker wasn't coming out.
