ok...i know i'm way out of my league tryin to play warehouse...but this isn't the correct tab is it...i realize this is supposed to be a representation of the strumming pattern...but aren't the mutes too early in this?

No. In order to play it really percussively, the way Dave plays it you need to mute those strings below the note your playing so that they won't ring out.

Yeah I don't know why those are there.

But...there are several different "correct" ways to play it, rhythmically speaking. Dave has played it differently numerous times. In the earlier days, it was played as sixteenth notes, playing each note twice before moving to the next note. Later on, he would play it a little different, but that's the simplest way to explain it.

Since Dave's picking hand is constantly moving, he won't stop between the notes played. instead he just mutes the strings while his hand keeps picking so that nothing will sound but a percussive "chik-chik" sound.

Just listed to Live at Luther College and you will defintely hear it. Even Tim follows that muting.

My advice is to get the Luther College version of Warehouse and start practicing with that from the very beginning of the song ... It really gives you a good way to practice the strumming rhythm and then you can start adding in the chords after you get the strumming down. After a while, you'll be able to start seeing where the muting makes the most sense.
