Live clip of mine from last week (full song)

Post by Xoosh »

hey guys,
I played at a local Borders book store last week and hooked up my friend's DAT to the soundboard. Here is one song from the show. It's an orriginal by me called "Falling Through the Clouds"

I have a DL4 pedal, and a wah-wah though i didnt use the Wah for this show. So it's all one guitar. i Like to play a lot with tribal rhythms and stuff like that... so that sort of comes through here.

here's the live track:

Here's the orriginal if you'd like reference (techincally i bleed two songs into one, but because they are the same key, it's like song 1 > falling from the clouds)

http://www.eastofbeautiful.com/music/04 ... Clouds.mp3 (this is the cd version not the live track)

lemme know what you think of my live performance i can always use pointers... i typically use this song to close performances though this time i opened with it.

/x

my suggestion would be to not open with this one. the first two minutes just kinda drag on and i would think that people might lose interest quick. the rest of the song really picked up and it was pretty cool and definitely interesting. there were a few bends that i would try to leave out, i dont feel like they fit the song very well and a few were slightly off

hey dustin =)

fatjack, lemme correct myself, i typically close with this track. and i ususaly have a djembe drummer involved with me when i do perform this and a couple other songs. I only use it to open when im not playing with my DL4 because i typically play it much faster and more aggressive when im not plugged in.

thanks for the critique =)

Xoosh,
Very interesting, very enjoyable. The heartbeat-esque intro is awesome. I love to hear the guitar being used like a drum, if that makes sense. While I could see what Fatjack is saying (suggesting not to open with it due to a potential lack of immediate interest), I think you should stick with it. It really sets a fitting mood if the majority of your music is of the same nature (tribal rhythms). I particularly enjoyed the mute-strumming that comes in around 4:34. Fine work.

...just saw your edit (stating that you closed with it rather than opened).

That works too.

i liked this track, the progressions were good and sometimes things seemed to flow just perfectly, gave that cool ambient sound. The only thing i really didn't like was the solo riff starting at 3:15 it just seemed kind of boring like you were just practicing a scale or something. but overall it kept me listening till the end. good job.

excellent =) thanks for the comment. Did anyone get annoyed by the "tribal" 0 harmonic rhythm thing i did nearer the end?
