yep. That's what's so cool about Dave's playing. He chooses the notes he wants to hear in each chord to best capture the feeling of the song. sometimes he plays full open chords, other times just a two note octave chord. like you said he very rarely plays full barre chords.

Same here , what a drag that was , i can't remember how long i avoided Barre chords , just for the fact that i hated them , but once you learn Barre chords , you notice all the new worlds opening up for you :)
I always avoided them too, until I wanted to play some Jack Johnson things. I needed to learn them to play his stuff. Now it's no sweat.
