The greatest song Clapton wishes he never wrote

Unread post by Appfro » Tue Dec 02, 2003 8:19 pm

This is exactly what the title suggests...Tears in Heaven. Now, since I'm leaving I realized that I wish I had done more covers, so that's why I'm plopping them out like this. Unfortunately, since I'm trying to pop them out so fast that I can't spend a lot of time on each so they are all mediocre. I promise the next one will be better. but for now, here's Tears In Heaven

two tracks
one guitar (kinda weak but eh sue me)
one vocal

App,
I really enjoyed that. I can tell you've practiced the tune quite a bit. For the vast majority of the song your voice was on key, and for the vast majority, your guitar was right on rhythm. However, at 2:20, I don't know if that pause was intentional, but I don't think that fits well. Your voice has a little bit of Johnny Lang in it. All in all, great job.

By the way, I wish I would have registered on these boards before I drove up to Boone for a D&T show, we could have jammed.
-Brian

Be excellent to one another.

yes, we definetly could have, i did nothing after the concert but watch a clockwork orange...good movie, but i would have much rather jammed :D the pause wasn't intentional, it was a mess up, but i didn't feel like redoing the whole track, i haven't mastered the art of punch in

EDIT: the one at 2:20 WAS intentional...sorry, i thought you were talking about another one.

hey man, that was great...really enjoyed listening to that...guitar sounded great, vocals were great too...from time to time you stretched them out a little bit for my taste, but it sounded like it was your own spin, so it was by choice. Again, excellent job.

i think the only critique i have for the song... is the plucked strings you can hear from like :33 - :47 the loudest... sound very harshly picked and no where near as soft and lovely as they can be... listne to the words and understand the meaning behind the song (im sure you know the info, it's quite a powerful song)... and i think by doing something like that without conscious thoght to making them soft to fit the song, you can ultimately hurt the song. it's such a minor thing to worry about-- but it's extremely important (IMHO). (this is also extremely evident at 1:56 or so)

1:48 you blunder a little on the switch.

your vocal section is fantastic! (watch out at 2:10 -- sounds like a country song for a moment try saying it as "hahtt" instead of "harte")

great work!!!! play this live definitely!!! just work on the plucking.. (i know how hard this song is to play, but since you can play it, go all the way with it!)

fantastic job,

x

I can't really say enough about this cover.
It's damn great...definately saving this one for good.

Your vocals have become really impressive lately apps, i'm not sure what you've been doing but keep doing it...

fantastic!

the only critique i have is that little pause at 01:46....other than that, perfect.
