yea the nice thing about a song if you don't like it in its initial state is that it always has the chance to evolve as the band works with it and plays it. I think thats something very rare among other bands, except for jam-bands because once a song is down, thats it; it's just played that way and remains static for a lot of artists.
DMB though is a different beast in that matter. That is why even though it might get a little old hearing billies or two step everytime you go to a show, it's still pretty good or you actually might find yourself happy they played it because you never know what they might add to it or how they will change it.
I think it makes it really exciting and refreshing, especially in the live sense that no two performances of the same song are the same. I know other shows I've been to that bands just follow a set formula and play a song the exact same way every time, it's sorta like a bunch of zombies up there or machines just going through the motions.

I disagree. My number 1 gripe with DMB is that they are always the same. I think that lead to me burning myself out on their music in high school. I can barely stand to listen to them anymore because its almost always like I'm thinking "Oh, this old song."
This is from an article on jambase about Trey Anastasio, I figured I'd post this part of it because I thought it was pretty cool what he said about Dave.
Because Trey's most recent efforts are less about guitar freak-outs and more about vocals, poetic ideas, and deconstructing emotions, some followers have questioned his motives. Fans wonder if Trey is searching for a Dave Matthews Band or John Mayer type of hit. "That's such a gross over-simplification that it's almost ridiculous," he says. "I can tell you, I'm never gonna have a hit, forget it. And by the way, Dave Matthews is amazing. So to those people, the first thing I would say is that if I could write a song that had one iota of the emotional impact of either that 'car crash' song on his solo album or that 'Stay or Leave,' I would be very, very happy and proud, because the guy is incredibly talented. So in that sense, absolutely I'd like to write a song like that."

Everytime i listen to Busted Stuff live, on live trax 3, i wonder why they don't bring this song back to the rotation. Carters rolling beat is ridiculous. on that note, raven from this set is fantastic as well.
