hmm where to now?

This is the place to talk about guitar playing not done by Dave! Topics about techniques, styles, theory, and other guitarists go here.

Usually artists who play instrumentals have more difficult songs. Tim Reynolds, Tommy Emmanuel. Give Stream a try, it does wonders for both your right and left hand. Van Halen's Spanish Fly is another really hard one. And of course everyone mentions this guy when people want harder songs to play, Justin king. Its true, the tapping stuff really develops you hand strength and rythm. Dueling Ninjas by Trace Bundy is also another good one. Those are my primary artists for difficult material. And if you want an utter mind numbing left hand exercise, Pagannini's 5th Caprice in A minor as transposed by Yngwie Malmsteen is a total bitch. Hope that helps

How about gaining more of an ear for music, and creating your own shit?

I second that. You can learn a lot from Jazz. You also might want to get into some fingerpicking. Making use of all those fingers on yo hand.
