What kind of setup do you want, just very basic?
What level of quality are you looking for?
Do I listen to pop music because I'm miserable or am I miserable because I listen to pop music?

If you are just starting out recording, I recommend Audacity as a recording program. It is a free download on:

audacity.sourceforge.net

Also, you can pick up a 30 dollar computer mic at Best Buy that will cut out all of the hissing andfeedback that a $10 mic willl give you. That's the setup I use, except I have upgraded my mic. Audacity is great for what I use it for.
My guitars:
Taylor 714
Taylor 614ce
Martin Sigma DR-41
Epiphone Chet Atkins SST (Ebony)
Danelectro 56-U2 reissue
Fender American Deluxe Strat
Fender Aerodyne Telecaster
BC Rich Eagle Custom

for real, Its hard to believe that two people would want the cover of the bands worst album as their AV...

As for the recording
-Do you just need hardware/software?
-Do you have a way to hook your guitar/mic up to your computer?
-How much are you willing to spend?
