yeah. timmy's slower stuff is always a favorite. hopeful heresy, smile, etc. etc. it's only when he speeds up that he sorta loses touch with what the song's really going for.

the hayne's solo on CP kicked ass, though, as does any warren in general.

watch his solo's in the LiC videos... he's down on his knees and writhing on the floor and stuff. seems pretty passionate to me.

you can't be that good and not be passionate about it.

A good player knows how to shred, a great player knows when not to - paraphrase (unknown)

Quite true, quite true. The shred is an immensly overrated guitar technique. It's like listening to high school idiots (and believe me I know plenty) who learn one scale and play it over and over and over until it's really fast. Then they rock. And they sure do too.

like i said, i didn't want to put timmy down. i have heard some very passionate stuff from timmy. 3/29/03 two step, storytellers TB, #41 just about any time they do it. it's not just that slower means more passion or that faster means no passion. it's just that i think sometimes timmy thinks he always has to always has to be fast to be good, when really i think the warren haynes solo was one of the greatest iv heard.

oh and for everyone, i just found out that warren apparently grew up or lived in asheville NC. and my uncle knows him personally. they were really good friends when they were young. he said when he learned how to play, he used to play allman bros for my uncle, which is funny cause then he grew up and actually played w/ them. so now im going to see if my uncle can introduce him to me.

Yeah, Warren has a Christmas Jam every year in/near Asheville. If your uncle still lives near there, you should try to go. The shows are always incredible. Last year was Mule, Moe, Bob Wier & Friends, Jerry Joseph, Robert Randolph etc... hours and hours of great music. This year it is Warren, Jimmy Herring, Robert Randolph, Greg Allman, Michael Kang (SCI), Dave Schools & John Bell (WSP), Karl Denson's Tiny Universe, North Mississippi Allstars, ect....

I'm pretty sure it's sold out by now, but if your uncle could pull some strings and get you in the door, maybe even backstage... whew. Or there's always next year.
