Anybody know copyright laws regarding soundtracks?

Post by lyrics101 »

If I don't have nor can get rights to a song, can I record a cover of it and use that (if no soundtrack is sold seperate of the film itself)?

I assumed that's how the I Am Sam soundtrack came to be, when they couldn't get rights to the Beatles' work.

So this would be for commercial release then?
I can't imagine there not being a conflict with the copyright in that situation.

Random movie quote to make you seem hip and "with it": As long as there's, you know, sex and drugs, I can do without the rock and roll.

Yeah i still think you have to get it licensed. Have you tried contacting the original creators of the song?
Do I listen to pop music because I'm miserable or am I miserable because I listen to pop music?

Yeah, I have. It's been a pain.

I'll probably just work on an instrumental that has the same feel to it.
