What is Wrong With My Guitar

As of just recently, my guitar is super, twangy, I guess on certain frets on certain strings.

I made a little recording and went down the neck starting with the low e, a, then d, as these are the only strings making the noise.

You can tell from open to about 4th or 5th fret, it sounds weird on the the low e.

On like 7-12th fret, its twangy on a.

And on open to 5th or so, its twangy on the d.

I dont know if I just need new strings, Ive never had this problem with old strings before but I hope thats all it is. Can anyone tell me what the problem might be? Thanks.

Sounds pretty messed up. Might be the strings but it might also be the intonation.

I read this somewhere:

If it sounds bad on the first few frets and gets progressively better going up to the 12th fret, your guitar may have a misplaced nut.

Someone else may be able to answer your question alot better though.

are your frets worn down? happend to my old alvarez after i played it ALOT i brought it in and got all new frets on it.

your guitar could be drying out, your frets could be wearing down, or the changing seasons (humidity) could be affecting your neck. If that's the case, you may just need slight truss rod adjustment. Take the guitar to someone who knows wat they're doing.

me too... i just found out today playing tim's part in warehouse
the 11th fret on the B sounds way off...but the string is in tune

I doubt the frets are worn down, Ive only had the guitar for 3 years. I guess Ill try changing the strings soon, and if that doesnt do anything, Ill take it into a Luthier when I get some money.

I recently started keeping it out of its case, it sits on my Taylor guitar stand in my room now:
I hope that it being out of its case isnt somehow fucking it up.

It's possible it could affect it depending on the humidity conditions and how abruptly temperature changes in your crib. I keep my martin on a guitar stand and hardly ever put it in the case unless it goes out of the house and have never had an issue with it. Prolly just needs a slight truss rod adjustment. The reason that the E,A, and D strings are buzzing is because they are bigger in diameter than the last 3 strings. When you fret those bigger strings they are closer to the frets up the fret board than the G, B, and E strings would be because of the diameter of the string. Basically a small tweak on the truss rod would probably fix it perfectly. Also if you play medium strings then switching to lights for the time being may be enough to clear the frets from buzzing.

What I just typed has absolutely no truth in it unfortunately after reflecting on my thoughts. Each string is going to be the same length from the fret board and all the variances in height will be governed by how the saddle is engineered as long as all strings are fretted at the same fret. Even still a slight adjustment on the truss rod should be enough to clean up the play.

wow, I restrung it and problem solved. I didnt even realize how DEAD those strings were, I forgot how amazing my guitar sounds, its night and day.
