ALright, so I started playing the guitar 2 days ago because I desperately wanted to play Christmas Song. I did it off tabs and have it mostly down but as I look at other tabs I realize the inevitable. I don know shit! So can someone tell me 1st: what it means when a fret number has h after is ex: (0h2h4) and 2nd what x means? Ty Ty!
I did figure out that / means slide

Basically you strum the first note, in your case an open then bring your finger forcefully down on the second fret so that the tone changes, then you would hammer another finger onto the fourth fret. Hope that makes sense.
and an X is just a mute, you lay your finger on the string, but dont bring it down to the fretboard so that the sound is deadened, Dave does this a lot.
And sometimes slide is notated in tab on the net as an "s". And you may run into things called pull-offs, which are the exact opposite of hammer-ons in that instead of hitting a note and then 'slapping' your finger down on a higher fret, you play a note, then yank your finger off the note, landing on a lower note.

Nice work man. Christmas song was the first song I learned on the Guitar too!! Well now 3 years later I can play pretty much anything of dave and tons of music I didn't think i wanted to play but Luv it. Keep workin at b/c it will pay off. You'll get to the point where you can't go for more than 1 or 2 days without playing that axe of yours.
EDIT: I'm sorry..I think your a chick (Victoria?). It's very sexist of me to assume your a dude. My apologies.
hey, congrats on picking up the guitar. it's a great instrument, definitely stick w/ it. but in my humble opinion, i wouldn't start out w/ the christmas song. i wouldn't start out w/ a song. it's important to learn the basics first. chord shapes, chord transitions. ya know, the boring stuff. i would suggest getting guitar for dummies or some other beginner guitar book. guitar for dummies is what i used and it's a great book, also get a beginner video or two. but i definitely wouldn't start w/ songs like the christmas song cause you'll skip some very important fundamentals.
either way, enjoy the hell out of it and if you have any other questions, don't be afraid to ask.
