Before you guys say anything...I have read all the Crash strummin pattern topics on this board....and im still having trouble getting it right....it seems that i cant play the bass notes and strum at the same time...im having trouble with that...when i try to play the bass note sometimes i hit the right note and other times i hit the wrong note...and the strumming pattern has baffled me to the point where i want to just throw my guitar down and give up...argghh im so frustrated...Help Please!!

It does take practice, so don't think you're some hopeless case. I remember Crash into Me being tough for me to get down, too, especially, like you said, strumming, then hitting the bass note, then strumming, etc. Getting the strumming pattern wasn't that difficult for me, so I don't really know what to suggest other than listen to the recording over and over and over. There's definately a pattern, if you listen for it. Think of the rhythmic pattern as including two bass notes each - then the pattern just repeats itself. Practice, practice, practice.

I can make a video for you and play the song really slow and maybe you will catch on to the rhythm. You also have to realize your not going to learn this song in a day especially since you just started playing. Relax and just give it some time. Playing guitar is supposed to be enjoyment.

I don't know if it'll be any help to you, but I recorded myself playing it real slow so that you can maybe get an idea of the rhythmic pattern. You can dl it here:

as far as in terms of strumming down and up....can you list how many times you need to go down and up....for instance i know you hit the bass note going down and then strum going down...but it's that middle part that trips me up...

Okay, starting off, you hit the C# bass note (4th fret A string), then you strum the chord 4 times (down, up, down, up), then the open A string, then strum the chord 3 times (down, down, up), then continue the same pattern with the rest of the chord changes - B note on the A string (2nd fret) (down, up, down, up), then open E string (down, down, up), etc. Hopes that helps a bit.

It's kind of hard to say "This is exactly how many times you strum," there's just a rhythm and a feeling that goes with the strumming, it'll take practice, but it'll come in time. Don't get frustrated and give up cause once you get it, i guarantee you'll say "what the hell, that's the simplest riff ever."

For future reference, you could have kept this all in your first thread about crash, no need for two crash threads in a couple of days.

It is tough explaining a rhythm. Sometimes you just have to feel it for yourself. And it will come to you. Some things just take time.

Ok next time ill keep like topics in 1 thread....ok I feel u on the rhythm part...I worked on my notes first and I can do those without even lookin at them...I jus gotta practice the strum...my next question is, what u jus said about findin that rhythm...does that also apply to the "in a boys dream" part...cus I was gonna ask about strummin there too...

Pretty much the same thing with that rhythm, too. That rhythm has a pattern to it that repeats.
