this is what I was thinking too... but for some reason I don't think that's the answer my guitar instructor is looking for... could be though

well no, he told me to figure it out... so I'm trying to figure it out by asking the fine people at dmbtabs :D

I'm also curious as to the real reason, and don't feel like waiting until tuesday to hear him tell me.

doesn't it have something to due with the right tension on the neck too. I could be just pulling that out off my ass but i thought i read that somewhere.

Standard tuning has evolved to provide a good compromise between simple fingering for many chords and the ability to play common scales with minimal left hand movement.

I bet there are mathematical explainations to the tuning as well... App said he had a friend who figured out which tuning would be best with little music knowledge. :shock:
