So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

Hey everyone! I am new to the site and I figured it would be a good idea to register for forums. I have been playing guitar for about 6 months so far and I am picking up a couple dmb songs. Any ideas on what songs I should learn first before any others?

DMBTabs, welcome to it.

I would start of with a song like Proudest Monkey or the Intro/Verse to Typical Situation.

Prod monkey and typical sit are decent to play. If you have a suggestion that involves more of a strumming basis to help me work that up then let me know thanks again

Watchtower is a pretty easy "strummer"

Am - G - F - G - Repeat

I would try Big Eyed Fish then. You learn a simple strumming pattern in the verse, basic chord changes in the chorus, and some "Dave" chords in the bridge.

yup :)

the F was really hard for me when i was first starting. i have small hands to begin with and i hadn't built up the strength in my left hand enough to make the barre actually fret the strings well. it might take some practice to get it right.

try playing Spoon to develop your strumming pattern, it can be tricky but just listen to the song over and over, with enough practice you'll find it fairly simple and a really chill song to play. *you may find the stretch with your pinky finger to the G# (4th fret on the low E string) a bit tricky, but this will pay off in the long run.

here's a vid of dave playing it solo on youtube

You can also play an "open" F like so until you get better at barring:

Code: Select all

E:-x--
B:-1--
G:-2--
D:-3--
A:-0--
E:-x--
But you must learn to barre chords. As far as I'm concerned it's one of the more important skills to learn as a beginner.
