Well, a lot of us have just been fucked. (**ahem** Jason, Tico)
The following was just added to the official Dave Matthews Band taping policy:
"In addition to helping fans recreate the live experience, we hope tape trading will foster greater interaction within the fan community. Any method of trading that does not involve personal fan interaction defeats the spirit of this goal of the taping policy and is not authorized. In particular, posting audio or video files on web sites for streaming to or downloading by the public, is not authorized.."
This puts covers in serious jeopardy, as well as (if i'm reading it right) *gasp* kanter's videos showing how to play (maybe not though, not too sure).
*Sighs*

As I re-read this, I'm rethinking the implications of this statement. Since it is included in the "taping" section, perhaps this only applies to audio/video files of live DMB performances, not covers... not sure though. Any thoughts?
No offense, but i think you are incorrect. I believe that since our covers are us and not anyone in the band, we can do anything with our stuff. It just refers to the bands songs.

I'm obviously not an authority on this, but I don't see anything wrong with what y'all are doing.
I can't imagine that DMB/their mgmt would object to covers performed and recorded by a poster being offered up.
It's not like it's a profit-oriented activity, and I would argue that it does involve substantial fan interaction, as these are being offered up for critique and improvement.
So, my absolutely worthless opinion is: you're in the clear.
I believe the policy refers to recordings or videos of the actual band (or the individual band members), not covers.
The way I interpret it, the DMB Policy would fully support the videos that Kanter is doing (in fact the whole DMBtabs site as well) because it is truly being done in the spirit of fostering interaction and growth within the dmb fan community.
hmm. if it doesnt, ah well. if it does, screw the dmb taping policy. just because i love the band doesnt mean ill follow some ridiculous rules their agents or whoever created...
