i've hesitated on asking this question for some time now...but what do the x's mean when reading the tabs, just for an example in grey street with the x's in the middle... 2xx2 3xx4 and so on...how are they played if they are?
"x" and "-" normaly mean do not play.
But when I play the 2xx2, 3xx4 or 7xx7 chords, I usually let ring the D-string to get kind of a fuller sound the d note fits to these chords.

it means mute. just put your finger on the string lightly, without pressing it, that way you deaden the sound.
