Tim Reynolds Fretboard Wiping Cloth

I've noticed that Tim Re ynolds wipes his fretboard with some sort of cloth after some songs, especially solos. Does anyone know what type of cloth it is? Is it like 100% cotton or something because I dont want to damage my strings or fret board but do want to wipe away sweat.

I think any rag you have lying around will do the job. Your solid wood fretboard and steel strings aren't exactly soft enough to be damaged by cloth if its not 100% cotton.

Try steel wool. It works wonders! Surprisingly, your strings are tougher than steel wool, and using that to wipe them down will actually remove quite a bit of unwanted microscopic grit and sand and dirt and whatnot that gets there from your hands.

I just took an old t shirt and cut it into 1' squares, works for me. though $3 isn't much if you're already ordering something.

Ya I don't think I would use steel wool my guitar to wipe it when the strings are on. The only reason I wanted to know whether to use cotton or not was because I had a fear that I would get little fiber strands in my strings.

Use a T-shirt to wipe down the strings after each use...some say it extends their life.


Use steel wool on your frets to remove that greenish tarnish. Go easy though, 0000 steel wool is still metal on metal.


Use steel wool on your fingerboard to remove any unwanted grime or buildup from playing sweat. A drop or two of lemon oil or boiled linseed oil will work to restore that "clean look". Only 2x a year though, please.

Lemon oil is bad for the fret board dont use that stuff. Someone posted a link before from Martin's website that told the proper way to clean and care for your guitar and it said not to use lemon oil.
