"The Idea of You" by Dave Matthews Band
Transcribed by Adam Hanley
===========================================================
Note: This song is played on a Gryphon 12-string, which is in a raised D tuning. To get this effect on your guitar, you'll need to throw a capo on the 10th fret -- or, if you've been playing Stay or Leave, You Never Know, or another one of Dave's songs on a raised baritone tuning (B-e-a-d-f#-b), the capo goes on fret 3 (and is much easier to play).

For those of you who may have trouble following along, here's the order of the different sections. If a section shows up .5 times, then you should only play the first measure of it. I'm also counting this song in a slow 4/4, so the measure in section (IIb) is in 2/4, unless you're counting beats faster than I am.
Order:
I) x2.5
IIa) x4
IIb) x1
IIIa) x3.5
IIIb) x1
IIa) x4
IIb) x1
IIIa) x3.5
IIIb) x1
IV) x2
IIb) x1
IIIa) x3.5
IIIb) x2
IIb) x1
IIIa) x3.5
IIIc) x1
IIa) x4
V) x1

Cool. I don't have any of my guitars tuned like that but I'm sure someone will take a stab at it. You should record this so we can hear what it sounds like.

here you go.. this recording is just guitar/bass, but i think i'll spruce it up eventually, like i did with my Joy Ride recording
me like it,
bass? cabt really hear it, this songs pretty easy to sing along with.
Gervais on Rosa Parks "she was arrested but then that law was changed- but she didnt stop there, she started sitting in the seats saved for disabled people. unbelavable, she talked to the driver when the bus was in motion- did she have the correct change ready? - did she bollox!"
fyi, i had to make a couple changes to the tab -- i accidentally had an Fm written instead of an F for the first chorus chord, and i decided that the chorus's progression is F C F/A Bb instead of F C Bb Bb (and it includes Roi's main riff during all 4 measures, not just the last one).. i'll update the recording later tonight
the only thing i have in the tab that i don't think dave actually plays is the change in chords during the bridge -- i think he just keeps the root on fret 5 the whole time and lets stefan and butch do the change by themselves.
Thats rediculous. How do you do that shit. I listened to your audio and timed it with the good video of Idea of You and its perfect. All you people who tab shit out to perfection continue to amaze me and if it weren't for guys like you we would all suck at playing Dave.

i totally second that!
