New member here (with a Coldplay question)

Post by Reckless »

been following this board for a while now, finally decided to register

i remember a while ago someone did a Coldplay - Shiver cover. i'm having some trouble playing the acoustic part, it's got an odd tuning and weird chord shapes, and he uses his damn thumb too much.

anyone have that cover? i wanna hear that song with just the acoustic part...or does anyone have any tips to play this song?

That should get you most of the song. It is not exactly what chris plays, but extremely close. I can record the acoustic part and post it for you as a cover.

Actually, i was using the tab from http://www.justspies.com, with the (EADGBEb) tuning, the tab seemed correct for the most part when i compared it to some live performances, but yeah if you could post a cover, that would be awesome. Also, i think trippin posted a cover of shiver a while back, anyone have that?

Just listening to a live track from their website--there is no question it is in E A B G B F# (you can hear the droning low open B string), and the chords sound correct. I've read an interview with him from a british magazine that questioned chris on his tunings--he uses three tunings, and this is one of them. I've watched him play this song live twice and it's very close (he uses two finges most of the time, thumb on all the sixth string)--should be perfect for covering purposes. I will post a cover later in the week. hope this is helpful.

haha. good question. i believe that is my fault.

The tuning should be:

E A B G B eb

That should make it a lot easier.

All you have to do is detune the high e by one half-step.
Drop the D string to a B (you can use the open B to help with that).

Then you're all set--should only take a sec. Sorry for the confussion.

Shiver Cover

Post by Doron Diamond »

Hey there,

I have a cover version of shiver with me and a girl playing (she's playing lead) and the tuning I use is

EADG#BE

And I think it works extremely nicely. A LOT easier chord shapes than the EABGBeb tuning (although it might not be as official.) I'd post it, but every time I give my angelfire link, the account is terminated. I'd really like you guys to hear it, but any idea how I can do that without Angelfire? Thanks a lot in advance.
