ok i'm another one of those i just tried to start playing Neon people. I just started today and iv'e read all the threads there are but iv'e got a few other questions.
1. How many times do i slap the bass string and make that percussive sound? I'm not quite sure. In the video posted in another thread, http://www.gopednation.com/jason/neon-videos/ in the slow version, the guy only slaps the bass string like 3 times for the intro the rest of the time he's just hitting the bass so the note sounds. but in the actual mayer version i think he slaps it more often?
So how many times do i slap? It'd be really appreciated if somebody could edit this tab and jsut stick in where your'e meant to make the percussive sound.
Random movie quote to make you seem hip and "with it": The food court is downstairs. The cookie stand is upstairs. It's not like we're talking quantum physics here.
but isn't there a differnce between hitting the bass note and slapping the bass string to make the percussive sound? Check out the video and you'll see he slaps it every so often and it's not him playing the bass note.

I dont know, its possible, I havent exactly mastered the song by any means but I think I play it alright. His version did sound pretty damn good though, so who knows, maybe someone who can play it better could give you some advice.

I know exactly what you're talking about. Here is my new tab for you. Really listen to it, it's all equal timing, hard to tab out, but really listen to it. It's eighth notes I believe.
You'll hit it a total of 8 times if you want to sound like Mayer. Note, mute, Note, mute, Note, mute, Note, Note. I suggest mastering the finger positioning first, that's the most important. After just playing that for long enough, you'll start to hear the rythym and actually be able to play it. As soon as you're there, as soon as you can get the notes down crisp and hear the rythym, throw those mutes in and you'll feel the rythym, it's a beautiful thing!
thanks a lot guys!. ok that helped a lot especially the recording. thanks. keep this thread alive, maybe some other people will see it as well, it helped me a lot.
