Want to ask about strings, maintenance, amps, mics, or comparisons of different guitars or any music equipment? This is for all threads related to music equipment.
czech wrote:yup. what strings did you go with? just curious.
and you better post pics and audio clips when you get it.
Will do, man. I told him medium gauge Elixir strings (before you mentioned Nanoweb)...didn't specify more than that...
perfect, i am pretty sure the top three strings on medium elixers are the same as light/medium nanowebs if ou ever want to switch. but good choice on mediums too. so much fuller sounding.
Gold wrote:That's great, thanks a lot. You have a D03-E, right? How happy are you with it? I'm glad to hear it didn't need any adjustment..
Yea man I do have the D-03E. I am absolutely in love with it. I was a little hesitant to go with Mahognony since I had heard the praises of Rosewood over and over, but after playing a rosewood version of this guitar, I found the mahogony to be more balanced and just slightly brighter, which translated better onstage with two other electric players behind me. I also think the mahogony added a little sparkle to the mid range that the rosewood version lacked, but of course, this is different on every individual guitar. As for action, I would compare it to the playability of Taylor's with a slightly thicker neck, which for me is more comfortable than one that is too thin. The craftmanship is superb, and right now I couldn't be happier. If you have specific questions, let me know I'll be happy to answer them.

solid Sapele mahogany back & sides
i dont know if the original D03 has a sitka spruce top, but damn, i compared my regular spruce topp guitar to my sitka spruce, that sitka throws out a prefect blended bass. sounds awesome. I want another saitka guitar now.
Alex, I was originally paying $999. I'll get this one, and I'll have someone install electronics on it later if I decide that I need/want it.
Patrick, that's cool. I was at the 12th fret last easter actually...great store...had a coffee at a nearby cafe as well...can't remember what it was called though...
I'm not getting them to ship it, they're just packing it in a shipping carton, and my uncle will take it on the plane to Norway...

I played a D-03 a couple of weeks ago at Folkway Music in Guelph, Ontario.(had my Martin D-16 in to fix the crack) and it blew me away, the sound was incredable, and it was around a $1000.00. I think you made a wise choice on your selection.TREE.

Gold, just wanted to tell that my guitar came from the US inside the case and also packed in carton. The case arrived in perfect condition. The guitar... just had to tune the E string a little bit
So I think you'll be just fine!
PS: My heart has been suffering with this purchase!

I'm very glad to hear that. My brother bought it yesterday, and I won back the same amount that I paid for it at the poker tables, so it was a good day
Sfmartins: thanks a lot, I really appreciate all your help in this thread. I really hope my guitar will make it over here fine as well

So I got my guitar today, and I couldn't be happier. What an incredible instrument...and it looks fantastic as well (I'll get pics up tomorrow). I was actually pleasantly surprised when I opened the case It has a very high-quality feel to it, and the sound is amazing...I'm gonna play so much guitar this summer!
