Playing Grey Street and OSW

Post by deadpickle »

I have been practicing these songs forever, especialy the intro to OSW (first one I tried to play and still cant play it fast). The problem I'm having is that when I try to play the first 4 strings I either strike the G string to lightly or I nick the B string and It sounds bad. So I was wondering if anyone had any tips on playing just those first 4 strings better, I could really use the advice.

This is just an issue of practice. You can't really teach someone to have more control with their picking, it's just a matter of patience. Keep it up and stay at a slow steady pace at first and you'll be able to speed it up eventually.

I had the same problem with control while trying to learn the OSW Intro. I don't know if this is proper technique or not but, I started resting the palm of my hand lightly on the bridge of my guitar and using that as a reference point...after a little bit of practice it became much easier for my pick to find the right strings. I still need some work but my OSW Intro is starting sound pretty decent.

Good Luck! and welcome to the boards.

for grey street and other "dave chords," i use my index finger on my left hand to mute the b and e strings.
