mic to computer

Hi, I just recently got my hands on a shure mic and I want to use it to record my beautiful voice

I was hoping that I could connect this directly to the mic input on my computer soundcard. I just wanted to make sure first that this is OK...or will it make my soundcard explode? Does anybody know this?

This is fine. You'll need to buy an XLR->1/8" adapter or cable. What I actually have is an XLR->1/4" cable with a 1/4"->1/8" adapter. You can get both of these at Radio Shack, just tell them what you need and they'll know where it is and what it looks like.

You can get a LO-Z transducer that converts from XLR->1/4. Then use a 1/4->1/8. That should take you directly into the computer.

Hopefully you have a good sound card, because if you don't, it's going to sound like ass.
