Lack of inspiration (why can't i write a songC)

I'd like to add something of substance, but I haven't played guitar in about a month mainly because of the same reason. It sucks.

Anyone want to tell me why I continually write the same vocal melody to every song? Different lyrics, different harmonies in the guitar, always seems to be the same.

I have the same problem sometimes, what i find helps is to play scales on your guitar or even better, a piano, mess with a few notes, three or four and keep it simple, just hum along and it will come. To be honest, i think finding a memorable vocal is the hardest and most important part of songwriting. Try the scales though.

The trouble I seem to continually run into is writings songs with all the same rhythm. For the longest time, everything was in 6/8. I had to force myself to write in 4/4. Or at least something other than 6/8.

I find that picking up a new book helps me alot.
Also, step away from your instruments for a few days. Until you're dying to play and when you'll get back you'll feel inspired.

one time i had a dream of a song that me and some friends were playing...id never heard it before but it was good. anyway, my friend was playing the guitar and he had the first fret capoed. when i woke up, i realized that i remembered how to play what he was playing in the dream. i didnt own a capo at that point so i went and bought one, put it on my guitar and played this song....it actually made musical sense, the chords sounded good together. it was insane. since then though, it has not developed any further. just a cool story
