Travis (Blink182) vs Carter???

Post by mattinbeloit »

I saw a thread in the musicians area of antsmarching comparing the drummer from blink 182 to carter? This seemed crazy to me, I've heard blink and the drummer was ok but nothing special, and to compare him to carter which IMO is one of the best drummers to grace the earth, is just crazy. Someone brought up the fact that travis was classically trained blah blah blah, has anyone actually seen this guy really drum, is he alot better then the stuff I have seen or something? It just seemed crazy to me to compare him to someone like carter, but I'm not a drummer, I just go by what sounds good to me, maybe some of you drummers can chime in here.

The drummer from Blink 182 is indeed a pretty decent drummer. Not many people can deny that, he is a really good drummer. But I agree, comparing him to Carter isn't exactly a contest. I think the reason the comparison was even looked upon is because the drummer from Blink 182 gets far more recognition than Carter does. But this is primarily that blink 182 is more well-known, amongst the music community, than Carter is.

well this is a dmb forum, so most everyone here is going to say that carter is better. Just like if you posted this on a blink forum you would get similar results but favoring him. But even when I try to take a point of view that is not biased at all, I think carter is just plain better.....

how do you compare an apple to an orange? By taste. You're job is to taste each drummer after an outdoor show on a particularly hot evening. Come back with the details. After about 1000 of these we should have enough of a sample size to compare the two.

travis barker really is an under-rated drummer. because he is in blink-182, a band best known for running around naked and making fart jokes, he does not get the credit he deserves. I've seen blink twice, and both time travis had unreal drum solos (the second show they actually hoisted him and his drum set above the stage and he played while swinging upside-down).

i cant compare him to carter cause they both play extremely different styles, but nevertheless, both are awesome

Barker is underrated, for younger newer drummers, they will reflect on Barker more b/c of the music genre, which for pop/punk/mainstream he is a top drummer. whereas Carter is for people who look deeper into music. Barker is a great drummer who has some good licks/beats but really, his solo's and each song are really nothing to duplicate for intermediate drummers. Carter on the other hand, as such a flow and knowledge for the music that his songs cant be duplicated (even by himself) there's improv which shows his intensity and emotion and the drums have room to vary and not be constricted note for note.

all in all: Barker is underrated but is not close to being on the same stage as Carter

I didnt say he is untouchable, I just said that barker cant touch him. Theres many many other drummers that Travis Barker wouldnt mentioned in the same sentence with, Carter too. But as for these two drummers, i stand by what I said

Travis is really really good. You guys hit it on the head when you said he doesn't get his credit because of the band he played with.
