New to playing guitar

Post by jasonshoe77 »

I have only had a guitar for a few months and was wondering if I really need to take lessons, or can I learn on my own with video's and stuff like that? I think i will have a problem with rhythm and the finer points if I don't. What do you think?

I think you can handle it. Just watch lots of videos and always have the will to learn. If you want to do it bad enough, you will do it.

Plus theres always a lot of things you can learn on the boards.

if you want to learn music throey and the technique side of the guitar i suggest lessons.. but if you just want to play and have fun, and develop your own style, then you dont really need lessons...
and just curious... is your name "jason - shoe77" or "jasons - hoe77" ?

id reccomend them at least temporarily. it will give you a solid base, and it will help you progress quicker through the initial stages. i took them for a month (learned to read tablature, learned scales, learned very basic theory, and learned practice techniques). If you have the dough, might as well, if you dont, you can figure a lot of stuff out on the internet.

The other option to learn this stuff is to find a friend. I started playing guitar because a friend of mine played. He taught me to read tablature, scales, basic theory, etc.

I think classes will be more useful when you can move your fingers in a more relaxed way.

For now, just practice a lot...

Good luck and welcome to the boards.

the vaginal fluid they are secreting is the same composition of urine minus the uric acid and phosphorous. i learned that in 11th grade anatomy. btw, sometimes it does have a FAINT smell of Pizzle.

i'd say start off by yourself. start learning what you want to learn first. then, if you're really interested, you'll get a teacher because you'll WANT to know theory.

I think its possible to learn the guitar on your own, but even if you take 2 months of lessons you will grow so much faster and see results faster too. Some people who try to learn by theirselves get frustrated and quit... good luck.

i taught myself how to play for about a year and a half and thought i learned really fast, then i kind of hit a wall i couldnt really figure out where to go nest, so i took a three or four lessons over my winter break and it helped alot, i learned some theory and it helped more than anything i ever did, so i would suggest taking a few lessons, it cant hurt,

If you want to get the basics down fast I'd say lessons will help, at least a few. I never had lessons and I learned by reading books and this site and other sources. Just depends I guess but you can definately do it on your own.

I had the same questions when I started. A friend of mine plays and I finally bought a guitar and started tinkering around with very small parts of songs that I picked up from him. Very soon I realized that I wanted to continue and eventually be good so from that day on... literally... I played constantly. THis site is a lot of help, also listening to the songs you want to play over and over helps tremendously. So by the time I decided maybe I should take lessons, all my friends that play said that it would be waste of time because I picked it up just fine from tab, chords, yada yada.

Its really about how much time you put into it. If you have plenty of time and are eager to learn you can teach yourself quite a bit. Dont give up.

How much have you learned so far?
