Haha that is kind of funny that he would say that. I still stick to my guns though, decent album. I'm real excited to hear the new stuff though. The only thing I don't look forward to is the 16-year-old girl next to me that has been screaming "I love you Dave, I wanna have your babies!" turning to her friend and saying "What is this song? I've never heard it. This sucks. Let's go get a soft pretzel" when they play a new song.

Haha very true. I seem to always get stuck next to the "teeny-boppers" who know only like 10 percent of the songs played. The one's constantly shouting "CRASH!!!!" Maybe since this year i went through warehouse i'll be surrounded by some good wholesome warehouse fans. One can only hope.
About the stand-up sessions... If DMB had released Stand Up in '93 as a debut album, they would not be where they are today. The music created in those sessions was crap, much lesser than anything that came before. The only reason it is embraced by a few is because it has the Dave Matthews brand on it. The music that was created back in the day was life changing for me. Now it seems so un-inspired and dull. I for one am very optimistic about road-testing the material. It proves to me that the band really wants to put out music the real fans want to hear. I know they should write for themselves and not worry about anyone else, but I don't think they even did that on stand-up. I think they created the album that batson wanted, and batson's taste just sucks. The band is better than this guys and we, the hardcore fans, need to hold them to that or else it could slip away forever.

I understand that completely. I'm a huge fan of lillywhite myself and I do think that they need to step it up next time. Stand Up didn't sparkle like others before had, but I do enjoy the songs (more so live than the album). But I agree, as a hardcore fan myself, not their A-work. Like I've said before I think the songs have evolved greatly live, they put so much more emotion into the Stand Up songs live than on the album. I think many will continue to evolve and become DMB "chestnuts" just as many of their other classic songs have. Not a lot of fans were thrilled with "Everyday" when it came out, but eventually it grows on you (most of the songs anyway) I truly believe that 75 percent of DMB's success is their ability to improve their songs live and continue to recreate and reinvent them.

the unfortunate think about the music business is that they may well be where they are today. A song like dreamgirl is 1000 times easyer to make a number one than pig.

they roadtested joyride, sugar will, hello again, and crazy easy in 04, i think they all got good reaction, and then only one of them made it on the album
