Ellis was in the area and my prof got him to stop by the studio for a little while and I recorded him basically jamming for 20 minutes, the most memorable part was him playin "Somewhere Over the Rainbow", this guy is a freaking jaz legend and I got the honor of recording him, what a day!

that's what i thought, more people are familiar with wynton than ellis i would think
here's an interesting tidbit: the current trumpet professor at my school was one of wynton's teachers

That's really cool. I'm interested to know about how you chose to do the recording.
Mic config, mic patterns, spacing, directionality, etc.
