Crash strumming pattern

This is my first post so be gental

Crash is the only song I think I can play with minimum error but it still doesnt sound right. What are his strumming patterns for the song? It sounds like he down up down strums the first chords but I'm not sure.

I figured this out when I first started playing also so good luck to you.

What you have to do is strum the single notes that are in between the repeated chord going down. Then strum the repeated chord DOWN as well, ((((bring your hand back up and strum DOWN again THEN you can strum up, down, up all in in succesion.)))) <---- The bracketed part is all strummed quickly so it should be four quick strums.

So (1)note going down (1)chord going down and by the time you bring your hand back up you'll have waited enough time to begin (1234) with the first chord going down.

Oh and after that you have to hit the next (1)single note (which should be easy because you're bringing your hand back up from the last strum of the repeated chord.) and play (1234) starting downward again. By (1234) I mean the repeated chord he plays between notes.

I know I sound really stupid trying to explain this but I don't know any music theory or anyway to put this in a descriptive form so...that's my best.

Always try to take it slow. Some music programs like winamp have a plug-in where you can slow the tune down without losing pitch. Take it slow and TAP YOUR FOOT. Then gradually speed it up.

Look at the numbers i've written above in bold. I strum parts directly above 1 & 3 the same. And 2 & 4 the same:

1 & 3 i hit the A-string 4 and the 2 on their own with a down stroke (/) then the chord with another down stroke (/) then /\ /\ /\ /\ (that's down up x4)

2 & 4 I hit the open A string down (/) followed by up down (/\) with the chord finishing with the same four /\

So basically, i do // when i'm using my second finger and /\/ when i'm using my first finger.
When i listen to L@LC (and other recordings) i'm convinced i can hear Dave play it this way. either way, it adds a little variety into what's otherwise a pretty repetitive strumming song. This way one of the first songs i learnt (only about a year ago) and is still one of my absolute favourites. so good luck!

Also, strumming was definitely the weakest part of my guitar game and i improved by playing Dave everyday, and playing along until it sounded like i was strumming in harmony with him. Like everyone else has said already, practice practice practice.
