Time to get a bari and and find a way to tune to raised B

Alright, with Dave's latest, for me there are enough songs to warrant a purchase of a baritone electric. My question is, what do get? I know Dave's isn't available, and I dont have much cash either. I cant ever find any on musician's friend. Anyone have any ideas?

2ndly, also would love to take off this gay capo and tune to raised B. Question is, have the DMB tabs comomunity ever come to a consensus that it wont harm the guitar? Have they made any specially made guitars for this yet? I tried it a while ago, with regular strings though, not the kind they tell you to buy and I broke 2. Do the diff strings really make that much of a difference? Give me some thoughts fellas and ladies...

The different strings are thicker so you won't break them. Do it as it's described here and you won't have any problems. You don't need a speacial guitar but you might need a truss rod adjustment. The problem with that is it will have to be adjusted again if you go back to standard. You really need two guitars.
As far as the Baritone I took a quick look and all I could find was $450 and up.

oh shit man, you gotta use the other guage strings. of course thats the only way to do it. you'll rip your bridge off and cause all kinds of damage by using the wrong guages.

and no it won't harm your guitar IF YOU DO IT RIGHT. everybody freaks out cuz normal strings break and there are like "that is so much tension" but it's really not. it is about halfway between the tension of Mediums and Lights. if you use extra light strings and follow the directions in the FAQ you'll be just around the same tension as if just having Lights tuned to standard.

i done this a couple of times and even experimented on my 12 string in raised B (that was a crazy experience) just make sure you are doing it right and next time use common sense before you go trying to tune a low E string up 7 frets!!!

NO NO NO NO

The strings are lighter Guage. thicker guage would mean more tension and you'd be lucky if your bridge didn't rip pff and smack you in the face.

lighter guage are under less tension and that's why you don't break them.

"identical to daves" sounds alot like "identical to daves" to me.

I ment identical as in looks like. That is the exact same body design as Dave's. And as for buying a Jerry Jones, you can find them around, they are rare and about 600-800 bucks

Thanks for the feedback.... Does anyone here currently have a Bari? Or a dedicated Raised B? I have a little 300 Epiphone i keep here in my appartment (Taylor 314 at my parent's house)....and I was thinking about raising it.

Oops my bad. I'm a little dyslexic from time to time.
I broke a string in my earlier days and it hit me right in the knuckle. It hurt like hell. A bridge would probably kill you.

i keep a guitar in raised b.. the only thing i use it for is stay or leave
but it was that or leave it in standard and never use it

but im happy with it

and the intro to hotel california is on e 12string with a capo on 7th so you could use your 12er in raised b
