Why did they call it "The Dave Matthews Band" ?

How did Dave got to call the band by his name

i mean how did Carter, LeRoi and Boyd agreed to that?
i can understand Stefan, coz he was like 16 ,but the others were already jazz musicians in the local Charlottesville music scene, except for Boyd who all i heard about was that he was a classically trained violinist.

A commonly believed story, whether or not it is true, is that the band needed to go on stage and didn't have a name so they used Dave Matthews Band as a temporary one and it just stuck.

They never really had a band name at first and people passed on the word that dave's band was playing, "You know, dave matthew's bad, the bartender from Millers", that's what they said on VH1 driven.

indeed.

i think boyd said "oh we're just the little 'ol dave matthews band" or something. it just ended up singing

but with all honesty, i dont think it's that bad of a name. i mean dave wrote the songs. of course he didnt write the other instruments. but they were his songs. so it's only makes sense to some degree.

but he's the fist one to say that if they could go back and change the name, that they would.

I really don't think any of the other band members really care at this point. They all strike me as the sort of musicians who play for the music, not for the recognition.

Probably casue Dave was the least experienced musician in the band at that time. Although Stefan was the youngest, he was a more ahcieved musican thatn Dave was.

i like on luther college where he is introducing #41 and hes like "its a rather creative name....about as creative as "the dave mathews band"...i always thought that was funny
