don't drink the water question...

Post by grazetreat »

hey,
I'm doing a paper for school and I'm analyzing don't drink the water along with an image and an essay. I'm having a lot of trouble finding a good image and an essay that would relate to the song. Any advice? Thanks!

Random movie quote to make you seem hip and "with it": Do you use this word? Alcoves?

if you need some inspiration, try listening to the storytellers version, dave talks for like 3 minutes about the song - good luck :D

It's about the genocide of the Indian people by the white men which came to America. Dave said that he got the inspiration to this song of a journey to the Grand Canyon and of his imagination of the quiet that once must have been there. And he said I was aweful to realize how bad things were actually going on when the white invaders came and gradually took the land of the Indians and then gradually killed them.
I mean I really share these feelings sometimes, because it really has something overwhelming when you try to imagine what it actually was like.
Dave's intention was probably to pay a tribute to it by doing this song

a tribute to the killing of thousands? ummm, i think 'tribute' might be the incorrect word. A tribute is attesting to something praiseworthy....there was nothing praiseworthy in killing and stealing...

I think Davesaid it was something about reminding everyone that there are alot of good things in american history but alot of bad things too... or something like that.

I'm sorry, you're probably right...but see, I didn't understand everything he said because it was in english I had no transator handy...

But he probably said: part of our history has a lot of poisen and we cannot reverse things but we can pay a little tribute to it by thinking about this.

I think it was something like that. Sorry for not expressing myself correctly

Dave was kinda high when he gave that speech. As he was throughout storytellers.
Forget about the reasons and the treasons we are seeking
Forget about the notion that our emotions can be swept away, kept at bay
Forget about being guilty, we are innocent instead
For soon we will all find our lives swept away

A good book to look into about this would be Howard Zinn's A People's History of the United States. As for an image, I duno what you could go with. There is not much from Native American artistry that might be a great image for the song. Maybe you can use the Native American guy from the commercial who cries due to the pollution and destruction of the land (and littering). Honestly that works well because we are suppose to sympathize with what happened with them, and at the same time just over look it and pay more attention to other lesser things. Hope that this helps.

peace
I love you oh so well, like a kid loves candy and fresh snow.
