yeah so then a number of his early songs from R2T and UTTAD were probably penned while playing that guitar. does that sound right?? then i'd have to give props to that ovation!!??

Ovations aren't that bad of guitars.. just not really good for dave style music.. they give a twangy sound.. if you like that, go ahead with it.. :-p

it IS a Chet with a soundhole. The very first one was produced in 1987. It had a soundhole and volume/tone knobs in the same place as a Les Paul. It was discontinued after the SST went into production.
I read about the Chet line when I was thinking about buying a Gibson version.

Also, he played the Ovation till mid-93, I wanna say...you can hear it VERY well on 3.23.93....which is oddly enough considered one of their best concerts ever. That guitar sounds great on Granny, especially. and Heathcliff's, of course.

On a side note, AJDMB05 wrote 3/5 African American...It's 4/5ths. Dave is African-American! Hello! Just because he isn't black doesn't mean he isn't African-American. On topic again, Chet.

I'm not talking about his chet with a hole.. I know he has played an ovation on a video I have.. i'm 100% sure of it.. i don't know dates or anything.. he plays Lover Lay Down I beleive.. so if it's a chet with a hole, and i'm totally wrong, i dunno the reason for the bubbled back..

after realizing this.. it's Van Ryper's(sp?) fair or whatever.. he has 2 ovations sitting on stage.. a blackish/purple one and a natural one.. neither are chets with holes.. just look at the headstock.. looks nothing like them.. it has the tapered end that the ovations have..

Yes, that is a Chet in the WWYS video. Also, in the Ants Marching video, he plays the Studio SST, but if you look behind him, he has the Chet with a soundhole there.

Then, that Love Lay Down video, it's from the Van Ryper's Music Festival. It was on April 5th, 1992. He has an Ovation with him and behind him. He is also wearing a hat! Yes, Dave with a hat.

Also, I bet Dave wrote a lot of his stuff at home with the Yamaha, since he seems to like that guitar, since he still has it, and plays it. I bet he recorded a lot of the early solo demos on it. I bet he didn't write at home with the Ovation, since he wouldn't be standing up at home with an ovation strapped on him, lol. That's why I hate Ovations, since you can't sit down with them. I personaly think they sound good onstage, though.

Also, am I right? On the Love of My Life, it was a Fender Acoustic, am I right?
Yes, I am in a box
