Post by Banjobach »

I have a new tapping song on my myspace site. I tried to incorperate justin king tapping and trace bundy tapping. Hopefully you'll all enjoy it. Its the first on on the list called Doubtful Words.

wow....

i mean really wow.

i was so afraid that this was gonna be choppy and messy and unclean as almost all young tappers are, but this is really uptight and well composed *jealousy*

all i can say is you might consider revamping your recording set up, because at points this sounds like a midi file its so well done. more guitarish tone would help

btw im the "Andy" that friended you

Hey thanks man, im really glad you liked it. Didnt know how people would like this one because it doesnt have much of a structure. I agree it could sound a little more acousticy at points, but i dont have a mac :( I have N-track studio which works alright as a starter program.

Eh, I think it's cool, and you handle technique fairly well, but it's severely lacking in originality. It's way too showy, and it seems to me that you focused on how you were playing, not what you were playing. See it as telling a story through your guitar. I couldn't really follow you "story" because their wasn't anything to latch on to.

ah that was my fear... I composed this song by putting a bunch of little licks togother that i had made over time. I admit its not my best song at all, its just really fun to play!

Man you are really good at that, props, its hard. I have listened to Justin and Trace for a while now and love their style but have not had the balls to give any of it a try. I started taping about 2 weeks ago, and it's going preatty good but I still have a long way to go. But ya, great job, my only complaint, like a few other ppl., is that it seems showey or something. The first song that I started writing in an open tuning and picking had the same problem, I figured out all these cool little transitions and stuff but when I started putting them together they sounded random like yours did to me. Finally I started taking out parts and using them as quick transitions between parts and starting to repeat parts and stuff like that and the song slowly started to adapt some contenuity, it took a while but after a year or two of messing around with it I finally made a song out of it. It's is by no means as complex as it started (In fact it came out very simplistic) but sounded alot better to me, and thats my other suggestion. Don't try to force yourself into making that into a song right now, play around with it and just start to let it form itself into something overtime. But ya great job man, I envy you because this is something I'm working on and that I suck at... Keep it up, and If your ever in Wisconsin stop by I'll let you lay down some tracks in the studio :).

Awesome tune. That slightly muted effect around 1:51, is that done via your guitar, or edited?

The muted effect accidentally happend because i couldnt get the notes to ring completely when i finger picked that fast. I mean im a banjo player, so im a little sloppy :)

Im in DADGAD on my guitar. The harmonic neck bend i do at the beggining is sort of a give-away. I recorded it by plugging my guitar into the back of my computer through the Line-in slot and edited the song through N-track Studio.
