Bass Amplification

I was wondering if anyone had any information pertaining to a method of building speakers called the folded horn method, i suppose. I don't know if thats the correct terminology for the species of speaker box construction but it involves mounting the speaker to an air tight cone shaped chamber and installing it backwards into a cabinet so that the cone faces front and the speaker is mounted "backwards." I am not sure there is alot of information about them or if anyone has ever heard of them before but if anyone has any input it would be much appreciated.

A lot of bass cabinets have folded horn tweeters, like those from Eden or SWR. I personally don't even see a need for tweeters on a bass amp.

im not sure what youre asking but the technique of folded horn originated in old school cabinet cramophones. They had to figure out a way to get as much amplification as possible in a small space and the method of folding over the cone or funnel shape allowed for the speaker to have up to almost a 6 foot long cone contained in a normal sized cabinet, which of course maximized amplification.

why do you want to know about folded cone setups?

Uh, the same reason you'd want it on anything else. There are lots of frequencies that go alot higher than the highest G on a bass. Harmonics, overtones, and so on. Clarity, snap, high end response and so on and so forth would benefit from a tweeter.

yeh that makes sense, mah bad...

do you know why the folded horn method is used almost exclusively in bass tweeters and rarely in guitar tweeters... because i still dont know why.

i just got some plans for building a folded horn amplifier and was wondering what the benefits of it were because it seems rather complicated and if it did not have any benefits there would be no sense in making something so complicated for no reason.

but as far as tweeters are concerned i have a 1x15" speaker cab with a JBL125 or summat and it had tweeters in it until i dont know what fucked up and I took it to my local guitar expert and he had to disconnect the tweeters for whatever reason... The amp still growls but the high end leaves much to be desired.
