Figured DAO

I was just wondering what this kind of wood is... I was looking around at some alvarez's and noticed that on the AD60 series, this is the kind of wood used for the tops. Any info would be appreciated.

PS. I feel like a dumbass for asking this, but i have never ever heard of it.

one of my students just bought that guitar (minus the cutaway and electronics) it IS a very sweet guitar

I'm pretty sure that's koa. That's what the K in the model name stands for. I've played one at Mars awhile ago. If I had money at the time, I probably would have bought it.

i have the ad60k and its koa wood...dunno what dao is.

I do beleive Doa is a type of koa wood.. it's a darker version of Koa I beleive.. from what i remember... either way, that is a beautiful guitar

if it doesnt say "solid <insert wood>" then its laminate.

i dont think Dao is a type of koa. i did a search and i couldnt find any info about it though. not even on the sites i go for buying wood.. (dont buy wood, it has good info on most of them though)

apparently y'all didn't search hard enough... I have found that it is possibly Paldao, from the Phillipinnes... I did a search on google, and that's the closest i came to... someone on harmony central who reviewed that guitar said that it isn't Koa, but like Shane said, similar, just a tad darker... and he also thought it came from China, supporting the Paldao hunch i had. And shane, the site i found this info on was some place to buy wood, called woodcraft.com i think.
