Whats with some guitar players using their thumbs?

So you're amazed as to how Dave's rhythm guitar slaps and strums so "perfectly"...but you can't. Ask all things about Dave and his guitars here.

I can do both. But since it's generally easier to use the thumb, I try to learn it without it first.

Ever watched Dave play?

He uses his thumb in several songs...

Anytime he does a standard D chord he uses his thumb on the 2nd fret.

He also sometimes uses it in Rapunzel during the verse, and used to use it in LLD.

It's not poor guitarmanship to use your thumb...

he's not actually using his thumb to fret a note, its just there when he adjust his wrists for certain chord formations, like D

I dont have a prob w/ people using their thumb. I wouldnt be able to play #40 without it

word, my hands are huge, and it makes stuff like #40 a lot easier to handle for me....
