Dave's Singing

Post by DrumsFoDaSoul »

How did Dave get into singing? Was he always naturally good with it? (I know there is some debate on whether the technique is good, but its a matter of preference)

As far as i know dave started playing the guitar when he was like 12 or so and later on he got into acting and then after working at millers he started doing open mic with timmy. I don't think dave had any prior voice lessons, probably not until the band started. I'm sure someone else will have a much more in-depth answer than i.

-in regards to playin with Tim. Dave's first time playing with Reynolds was not until 3.10.93 @ the Flood Zone, and his second time with Tim is the Prism Coffee House show which is very popular among all D&T fans. I am relativley sure Dave sang in Chorus throughout schooling and acting as mentioned above.

Yeah i think its what dmfollower said, that dave started with an open mic with timmy and played pay for what you get at miller's. Atleast that what i thought from when i saw VH1 Driven.

Yah I know, That show is so laid back and great for doin my homework. Dave states at the end of satelliete in the show that this is the second time they have actually played together. Pretty Amazing huh! If you listen at the end of tripping billies track before Two Step, Dave says that this song [two Step] would be challenging for Timmy because he has probably never heard it in his life. This is all according to Dmbalmanac as the second show they've played too. The guy who introduces Dave and Tim says that he saw them play at a Benefit Concert back in the fall. Well they did play a benefit as their first time together, but it was 3.10.93, not the fall like the guy said. This is all according to DMBalmanac.com. So something is off

I wonder if he meant the second time they had played together or the second time they performed together. Could be a bid difference. Although with Tim I don't think it really matters, he could probably pick any song up right away.

I remember reading or seeing on Driven that he used to sing at the dinner table and his dad thought he was good. His family was musical.

I wouldn't say he was always good with singing. Some earlier audio's I have he really struggles hitting pitches. I think he has gotten a lot better at singing but by no means has always been good.

Practice, doing the same thing for almost 20 years and having the best equipment and sound engineers money can buy.

Dave's voice is different, his phrasing and the way he makes certain "noises" sets him apart. Now there are many imitators

I read somewhere ages ago now that Dave never took singing lessons and he actually had admitted in a interview that he couldnt sing which is argueable, some think he can and some think he cant but its all a matter of opinion.

Dave's voice has changed over the years - and he has better and worse nights. But his love of music and his passion for expression has led to some amazing songs.

Just as an aside, Millers is tiny. Like tic-tac box tiny.
