Jimi Hendrix Guitars...

I've been watching alot of Jimi Hendrix videos and no matter guitar he's using, its always a right-handed guitar turn upside down. I just cant figure out why he didnt buy a left handed guitar. Anyone know?

When he was young, he bought a guitar at a pawn shop and it was a right handed guitar (if I remember correctly, he couldn't afford a left handed one). He restrung it upside down and it was just tradition for him ever since then.

I read that when he was a kid, his dad forced him to practice right-handed. When he was by himself, he would flip the guitar around and play it that way because it felt more natural to hold it that way.

i heard that he was way to poor to afford any good equipemt, so he got a right handed guitar, and a real cheap amp, decided to play with the crap amp no matter what because he thought the distortioned sound was cool, then everyone decided to call him revolutionary.

ok I read up on it a little bit- He bought his first guitar for $5 from a friend. It was a right-handed guitar, so he flipped it upside down and re-strung it for a lefty. When he got an electric, right-handed ones were the only ones you could find for cheap, so he did the same thing. Got used to it, I guess. Also, he didnt even have an amp for a long time. He used to sit outside and play his electric without an amp, or go hang out with friends that actually had amps.

wow, are you saying jimi wasnt good?

im joking around. i dont like jimi THAT MUCH. i just think some people over exagerate how good he really was. my personal oppinion is i dont think he was god. there are to many other amazing guitarists to single it out onto jimi.

i put him in the kurt kobain section, good artists that are viewed as great because they died young...

there is no doubt that jimi was good. almost all of the players that are considered "gods" to popular culture, agree that jimi was one of the greatest. it was not what he was playing, it was how he was playing it. then again, he wasn't really playing, the music was playing him. i mean when he plays, its almost like the music is pouring out of his body. you cant justify his music by listening to it on you home stereo or your ipod. you have to imaging standing in front of the stage with 30 marshall stacks cranked at full blast. jimi wanted his music to be felt more than heard. ya know? anyway, hope that makes sense.

ya kurt is also quite overrated, some people where trying to compare creativeness between kurt and billy corgan. kurt cobain with nirvanna another underground band, right place, right time. smashing pumpkins where just plain out creative. it really does come down to preference i guess though.
