don't think about price when it comes to Taylor...if you have 2k to plop down, start looking at the differences in models as opposed to price...
6 series has maple back
7 has the warm ceder top
8 has Indian Rosewood back and Sitka spruce top
all of which are 2k or less...so start looking at tonal differences...once you have a limit, it is safe to go down some if you want that "warm ceder glow for fingerpicking" etc.
while firedancer is basically right, he also fails to mention that besides the top of the 714 (which is sometimes englemann), the 700 series is a basic version of the 800 series. the 700 series has a koa rosette while 800 has abalone, and stuff like that also makes the difference.

CHECK THE TAYLOR WEBSITE TO SEE IF THERE ARE OTHER DEALERS IN YOUR AREA THAT HAVE TAYLORS. IF GUITAR CENTER OR SAM ASH OR SOME LARGE GUITAR SHOP THAT KEEPS ITS GUITAR IN BAD CONDITION IS THE ONLY PLACE YOU CAN PLAY TAYLORS THEN OK, BUT SMALLER SHOPS WILL HAVE THEM IN MUCH BETTER CONDITION AND THEY WILL SOUND A LOT BETTER

yeah, i can tell ya, isaac is in love with his 414 LTD. basically its an 814 for the price of a 414. the only real difference are the aesthetics. so if you feel bad about your dad buying you a $2000 guitar, then maybe a $1500 guitar would be a little bit better.
*nods* i already talked to Mikey about it. couldn't convince him.

couldnt convince him eh? well im still tryin to save up for one.
Ive never played any nice Taylors my neighbor does have quite a few but theyre all 3000+ and I dont have the balls to ask him to play them. I personally like high end Dean's and Alvarez's over the mid range Taylors/Martins, it kinda seems pointless to pay for a name. Thats just me, I like the 714ce though thatd be my vote.
